This Fender Telecaster was made in the USA in late 1967. Around this time Fender was experimenting with weight-relief on the telecaster model, which ultimately led to the Telecaster Thinline model. But before the thinline was released, Fender briefly produced some of these "smuggler" models where the weigh-relief came from routing out the majority of the area under the pickguard. They became known as "smugglers" because the hollowed out area provided a secret compartment for musicians on tour. This example currently has a clear pickguard on it to show off what makes it special - but it also comes with the original white guard. It is all original except that it has been refretted and has a new nut. We have only seen a few of these over the years, and this is the only example we have seen with a rosewood fretboard. It weighs 8 pounds 1 ounce. This guitar has been pro-setup in our store and is in excellent playing condition. It comes with the original case.
